Michael A. Chisnell, Jr., CFP®, QPFC, AIF®, CBC

Partner & Chief Investment Officer

Michael joined the firm in 2018 as Partner and Chief Investment Officer, expanding the firm’s technical expertise and investment management capabilities. Prior to joining Bruton Chisnell Advisors, he has led the growth of an independent RIA to more than $4 Billion in assets under advisement, during which he had leadership responsibilities for both the institutional and asset management divisions where he oversaw the firm’s investment decision making. In 2014, Michael was named the National Association for Plan Advisors (NAPA) Top 50 Plan Advisors under 40. Additionally, Michael served as the technical expert in retirement topics for Bruton Chisnell Advisor’s Broker Dealer, where he developed the industry’s first ETF based Collective Investment Fund suite, as well as, an innovative planning process for retirement income distribution known The RISK Process™.

Michael’s education credentials include a B.S. in Business Administration – Finance, minor in Financial Planning, and Certificate in Real Estate from The University of Akron where he served as a co-adjunct professor for Retirement Benefit Plans.  Michael is a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), Qualified Plan Financial Consultant (QPFC), Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®), a Certified Cash Balance Consultant (CBC), and a Nonqualified Plan Advisor (NQPA).  Additionally, Michael maintains the FINRA Series 7, 24, 66 and state insurance licenses.

Michael’s industry involvement includes serving as the Co-Editor for the ASPPA Advisor Update, the Investment Professional’s Co-Chair and the Education & Examination Committee for the American Society of Pension Professional and Actuary’s (ASPPA).  Additionally, Michael has had numerous speaking engagements to include SPARK, the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, and PowerShares University to name a few.  He has also been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, planadviser Magazine, Crain’s, and ASPPA News.

Michael resides in Barberton, Ohio with his wife and daughter.  He is passionate about improving his local community, and has served as past Board Chair for the Barberton Community Foundation and on the Professional Advisors Council for the Akron Community Foundation.  Fun fact:  Michael has had a dog named CODA and a cat named ERISA.
